Fourth Annual Oak Island Surf Contest Promises Plenty of Waves
80+ Surfers are Expected to Join in the Labor Day Festivities
OAK ISLAND, N.C. (August 27, 2007) – All eyes will be on the ocean this Saturday, September 1st, as 80+ surfers are expected to hit the waves for the 4th annual Labor Day Surf-Off. The festivities will kick-off at 8:00am at the Ocean Crest Pier on Oak Island. The contest welcomes surfers and body-board riders of all ages and skill levels, from eight years of age and older, with divisions for men, women, boys and girls. Division winners will be awarded fantastic prizes and keepsake trophies. The annual raffle is always a popular event. This year’s raffle winner will receive a custom shaped surfboard, valued over at over $500.00.
“The Labor Day Surf-Off always promises to be an exciting, event-filled day on the beach,” comments contest chairman, Jerry Helms. “It gives families a great opportunity to watch the festivities, get a taste for surfing and hopefully it encourages folks to grab a board and give surfing a try.”
