Police investigating two fatal accidents
WILMINGTON — Police are investigating two fatal accidents in Wilmington over the weekend.
One happened Saturday night near the intersection of Martin Luther King Parkway and Kerr Avenue. Police say the driver of a Lincoln Navigator drove off the side of the road and flipped.
Investigators say the victim died on impact.
Detectives are looking into whether the man had a medical condition which may have contributed to the accident.
The other accident happened late Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Waltmoor and Pine Cliff Streets.
Investigators say a woman ran the stop sign at pine cliff and hit an elderly couple driving down Waltmoor.
Witnesses say the collision caused the couple’s SUV to roll over, killing the driver.
Some residents say they’re concerned about speeding down the residential road.
Sue Gallagher said, “People just fly. It’s supposed to be a 25 or 35 but people go about 50 to 55. It’s just terrible.”
Some residents have started a petition to get a four-way stop sign at the intersection where the accident happened in an effort to have drivers slow down.
Police have not said whether speed was a factor.
