City gives answers to drainage flooding

WILMINGTON — A Wilmington man is looking for answers from the city about flooding in his yard during heavy rainfall. A storm drainage pipe overflows into Bill Lee’s yard when there is significant rainfall.

Dave Mayes from Wilmington’s storm water services said the city recognizes the best solution for the flooding is to replace the pipe. But as of right now, that isn’t scheduled to happen for another few yeras.

In the meantime, crews are dispatched to Lee’s house when flooding is expected. Mayes said, “That is money that is within our operating budget so we pay those crews every day to go out and maintain the system, so it’s just part of our normal operating budget.”
