Group donates thousands to abused children

WILMINGTON — Thanks to a local foundation headed by a motorcycle mama abused children in our area will be getting more help.

Doris Eakes is the founder and president of the Trinity Children Foundation. Over the summer she held a motorcycle ride across the state to raise money for the cause.

Wednesday she gave more than $21,000 to the Carousel Center in Wilmington.

President of the board Mary Barto said, “This money will be used to purchase new equipment for our children and secure a lease on a larger space for our children. We saw 70 children this month and we have a 1,700 square foot building , so we’re going to be able to double that space.”

The Carousel Center is a non-profit organization that helps physically and sexually abused children. Referrals are taken from the department of social services, law enforcement and pediatricians.
