Deputies looking for mother of infant; baby in critical condition

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Pender County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for a woman who they say dropped off an abused 4-month-old at the hospital.

The Pender County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a child abuse case that was reported yesterday.

Investigators say the child was taken to NHRMC and later air lifted to UNC Hospital in critical condition.

Investigators said the child’s mother, Cassie Cliff, took the child to the hospital and then later took off and cannot be found. They have issued warrants for her.

The warrants include Felony Child Abuse and Assault. Investigators said Cliff is believed to be in the Pender or New Hanover County area. They add that Cliff has a Rocky Point address, but is known to frequent known drug areas in Wilmington.

Deputies said Cliff was last seen driving a silver Mazda MVP van with a North Carolina license plate of DAP 4809.
