Local high school student writes children’s book

Seventeen-year-old Carolyn Goodin seems like most high school kids. The Trask High School senior likes hanging out with friends and is studying for her SATs. You can also add author and illustrator to her list of accomplishments.

Carolyn’s hoping her recently-published book will pave the way to college and beyond.

What started out as an assignment for a class has turned in to a published work.

Carolyn said, “There’s a brother and a sister and they get taken to a magical land called Candyland, and they get lost in time and they forget about their home.”

Carolyn says she intends to use the money from Candyland’s sales to help pay for college.

The book took six months to publish and the final product was more than she could have hoped for.

“I literally jumped for joy, it was a great sight to see. I was really happy.”

Ashley Nolan is Carolyn’s best friend. She said, “I’m really proud of Carolyn. She is my best friend and I’m super proud of her.”

An aspiring teacher, Carolyn says she hopes Candyland becomes a children’s classic.
This high school senior and published author has a new writing assignment on the horizon — her college essay — as she begins a new chapter in her life, college in the fall.
