Brunswick Co. voters complain about deputies at polls

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — In Brunswick County, there were reports of sheriff’s deputies stationed inside of polling places. Some say that could lead to voter intimidation.

County Board of Elections Chair Willie Sloan told WWAY after he received complaints from several polling locations, he told County Elections Director Greg Bellamy to remove the deputies. Bellamy told WWAY that deputies were not placed inside polling locations, but at times may have passed through the area.

Bellamy says the deputies were requested to handle traffic issues and that the voting process has been smooth today.
