8th-grader questions Edwards on Iraq
HANOVER, N.H. (AP) — An eighth-grade student in New Hampshire picked up today where Tim Russert left off last night, asking Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards about Iraq.
The exchange came at Richmond Middle School hours after a Democratic debate across town at Dartmouth College. The former North Carolina senator and rivals Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama told Russert they could not guarantee that U.S. troops would be out of Iraq by the end of the next president's term in 2013.
Eighth-grader James Harvard pointed out several other Democratic candidates made that guarantee last night.
Edwards told Harvard he would have combat troops out of Iraq in nine months.
Edwards got two standing ovations and enthusiastic responses to his answers at the school.
