Wrightsville Beach police to get body cameras

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Wrightsville Beach Police will soon be watching you a little closer. The town’s Board of Aldermen approved about $4,000 to purchase eighteen personal body cameras for police officers.

Police Chief Dan House says the cameras will help the department better review complaints against officers and help deescalate situations. He says if people see the cameras are recording them, they may be less likely to cause trouble.

The majority of the cost incurred for the cameras is paid for by a North Carolina Department of Crime Control and Public Safety grant.
