Edwards gets Iowa union endorsement

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards has received the endorsement of the Iowa State Council of the Service Employees International Union.

A campaign official says announcements of support from other state councils are expected today.

The campaign official requested anonymity because he was talking about the endorsement before it was officially released.

But he says the former North Carolina senator has a lifelong commitment for standing up for working Americans.

He told The Associated Press a “number of other state councils” of the union will announce their support for Edwards at an event in Iowa City this evening. He would not confirm how many.

Edwards was stung last week by the national union’s decision not to endorse a candidate for the primary.
