Santa Cop benefits local children

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department hosted its annual Santa Cop event this weekend at Echo Farms Golf and Country Club. The WPD raises money to spend towards gifts for underprivileged children who are in need of Christmas spirit.

Officers will shop one-on-one with the children on December 1 at Walmart. The kids are greeted by Santa and then head to the shelves.

Officers also say that events like this help show at risk children that police officers are people, too.

Though these officers may not have the best golf game, they are not in the rough when it comes to helping children in need.
