Water restrictions don’t apply to all businesses

WILMINGTON — With Wilmington under mandatory water restrictions, you may wonder how that’s affecting businesses such as car washes.

The restrictions don’t apply to car washes and Greg Simons from Cruisers Carwash says business is just as steady as before the water ban.

Simons says some customers are asking how it is they’re still up and running. He says Cruisers recycles about 95 percent of its water.

“We have a system called a reclaim system,” Simons said. “And what it does is as the water goes through it filters it out and it recycles it and just reuses the same water again. So obviously a little bit of it will get lost on the cars and stuff like that but overall we pretty much recycle the majority of the water.”

Simons says while business is steady now he hopes Wilmington’s current water situation doesn’t hurt business in the future.

If you have questions or see a violation there is something you can do about it. Call Wilmington’s water conservation hotline at 910-341-0114 or send an e-mail to conserveh2o@wilmingtonnc.gov.

Warnings will be issued through November 5. After that date you could face a $500 fine for violating water restrictions.
