Hagan says she’s reconsidering her decision about US Senate bid
RALEIGH (AP) — State Sen. Kay Hagan says she is reconsidering her decision three weeks ago to decline to enter the race to challenge U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole next year.
The Greensboro Democrat wouldn’t say Friday why she is giving it a second look, except to say she’ll make an announcement no earlier than Tuesday of next week.
Hagan is one of the chief budget-writers in the state Senate. She said earlier this month that she believed she could do more for the people of North Carolina in Raleigh than in Congress.
Jim Neal, a Chapel Hill corporate financial adviser, announced earlier in the month that he would run for the Democratic nomination.
Democrats have said Dole was vulnerable for re-election, but no elected officials have decided to get into the race.
