Lower temps could require heating system check

With the temperatures dropping you may be cranking up your furnace for the first time this season.

Now is the time of year to check and make sure your heating system is working properly.

Check your air filters once a month and replace them if they’re dirty.

If you smell an odor or your thermostat is not holding the temperature, experts say you may have an electrical or gas leak problem.

Older gas heaters could be especially dangerous.

Airmax Heating owner Stephen Beacham said, “[You] really want to make sure that we’re not having any problems with the heat exchanger leaking on some of the older units. It could cause carbon monoxide to get into the home, we know what happens with carbon monoxide in the house.”

Beacham says the older your heating equipment is, the more often it should get checked out. If you have a newer system, experts recommend getting a maintenance check twice a year during the heating and cooling season.
