Two local students win car
WILMINGTON — Two local students won the lottery at the Wilmington Housing Authority Monday — the vehicle lottery.
Names of two students involved in a youth-build program were randomly selected to win a free but well-used car from the Wilmington Housing Authority.
Students completed the year-long program to get a high school diploma or general education diploma, by participating in a carpentry apprenticeship, taking classes and fulfilling other requirements in areas such as leadership.
Twenty-one-year old Charles Holliday is one of the winners who says he’s thankful for the early Christmas present. He said, “It feels great. Now I know that if you work hard you actually will be rewarded for it.”
Holliday says his new car will be very helpful in getting him to school when he begins classes at Cape Fear Community College in January.
