Study: Asheville hospital among Top 100 heart hospitals in U.S.

ASHEVILLE (AP) — An annual study has once again named Mission Hospitals in Asheville among the country’s best heart hospitals, and its the only facility in the Carolinas to earn the
distinction.

Thomson Healthcare’s Top 100 study looked at 1,000 hospitals in the U.S. and analyzed outcomes for measures related to heart attacks, congestive heart failure and other heart ailments.

The study determined that if all cardiovascular hospitals achieved the same results as the awarded hospitals, more than 7,000 lives would be saved each year and almost 750 medical complications would be avoided.

The study also found that the Top 100 facilities averaged a 12 percent shorter hospital stay than peer institutions and average case costs were 13 percent less.

Mission Hospitals has now made the list six times.
