Salvation Army volunteers help with Thanksgiving
WILMINGTON — Volunteers at the Salvation Army in Wilmington helped more than 100 needy people enjoy their Thanksgiving.
For 13 years Wilmington resident Mark Kavanaugh and his family have spent their Thanksgiving at the Salvation Army. This year they cooked 20 turkeys along with all the other Thanksgiving trimmings.
The Kavanaughs and four other families started cooking the feast at 6:00 Wednesday night.
Kavanaugh says being at the Salvation Army on Thanksgiving is like being at home. The volunteers cook enough for 175 people.
Kavanaugh says that usually leaves enough for Thanksgiving leftovers.
