Section of parking deck collapses in Charlotte, injuries reported

CHARLOTTE (AP) — A small section of a parking deck has collapsed at a Charlotte shopping mall, and fire department officials said they are responding to injuries.

Firefighters and medical personnel were seen attending to at least one person Thursday afternoon on the top level of the three-tier parking deck at SouthPark Mall.

One car from the top deck fell through the opening of the collapse. It’s not clear if there are other vehicles damaged underneath the debris.

Firefighters have extended a ladder to reach the second deck of the lot, located near the entrance to the Nordstrom department store.
