Maid charged with murder

CHATHAM COUNTY — A Chatham County maid is now charged with murder in the beating death of a woman at a nursing home near Chapel Hill.

Investigators said 41-year-old Barbara Clark also faces charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

They said Clark visited the apartment of two roommates on Wednesday, became angry during a dispute over money and assaulted the women and their neighbor.

Margaret Murta, 92, died late Wednesday night. Her roommate, 82-year-old Mary Corcoran, is in critical condition. Their neighbor, 77-year-old Rebecca Fisher, is in serious condition.
