WILMINGTON, NC (StarNewsOnline.com) — A house fire that started after a lightning strike early this morning caused “very extensive” damage to a home in northern New Hanover County, according to fire officials.
The fire, which damaged a two-story house in the 7800 block of Bonaventure Drive, started when lightning struck the house around 7 a.m., said Deputy Fire Marshal Tom Sosebee. Firefighters didn’t get to the scene until about 9:30 a.m., when smoke coming from the house alerted neighbors to a problem, Sosebee said. The home’s owners are out of town.
