Community support builds for fire victims

LELAND — Community support continues to build for the survivors of this weekend’s mobile home fire in Leland.

The family lost everything in the fire that killed eight- and six-year-olds Anthony and Tyler Turner.

The boys’ aunt, Monica Caison, says people who’ve never even met the family have helped by donating furniture, clothing and money.

One developer called WWAY Wednesday and offered to help build them a house. Another man called and said he’s filling out an application for the family to appear on ABC’s Extreme Home Makeover.

Caison said the young girls injured in the fire are struggling to hold on.

“Both children are basically fighting for their lives, is what we were told yesterday. Kayla is a little bit worse than Kaitlin at this moment and we expect a full recovery. We remain hopeful,” Caison said.

A wake for the two boys killed in the fire will be held Thursday night at Coble Ward Smith Funeral Service on Oleander Drive in Wilmington.

Financial donations will be accepted at any local BB&T Bank. Just let them know you want to donate to the CUE Center Memorial Fund for Samantha and Daniel Bell.
