Poll shows tight race in South Carolina
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A new poll shows a tight race for Democrats and Republicans in the presidential campaign in South Carolina.
The poll by Opinion Research Corporation shows Hillary Clinton ahead with 42 percent of those questioned. Barack Obama is at 34 percent. Seneca native John Edwards trails at 16 percent.
The telephone poll was conducted earlier this week and has a sampling error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.
On the Republican side, former Arkansas Senator Mike Huckabee is at 24 percent.
Former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson is at 17 percent. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney are both at 16 percent. Arizona Senator John McCain is at 13 percent.
The sampling error is plus or minus 4 percentage points on the Republican side.
