Bill Clinton campaigns for wife in SC, plans Sharpton meeting

SUMTER, S.C. (AP) — Former President Bill Clinton says that his wife, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, is the presidential candidate best equipped to reshape the nation’s economy.

Clinton began his campaign day in Sumter, home to an Air Force base, before heading to Orangeburg.

Clinton was to wrap up the day at a reception and banquet honoring former Governor Richard Riley, who served as his education secretary.

Clinton’s campaign confirmed that the former president would also meet briefly with civil rights activist Al Sharpton in Columbia this afternoon.

Sharpton has not endorsed a candidate in the primary and a spokeswoman for Sharpton’s National Action Network said that’s not expected today.
