Hoggard celebrates football championship

WILMINGTON — Hoggard High School’s football championship became cause for further celebration this afternoon.

It was a big event as the Viking team took a bow in front of the student body at Hoggard field. They received their championship banner, marking their one-sided triumph over Mount Tabor to take the state 4A title.

Defensive coordinator Jeff Turner said, “All the support in Wilmington was just outstanding and it was just a great thing and I’m just happy we could all be there and again I appreciate all the support from Wilmington, it’s been great and you’re all a part of it, and definitely take account for that twelfth man on the field.”

Showing their support today were Mayor Bill Saffo and state Sen. Julia Boseman. It was quite a celebration at Hoggard to mark an undefeated season and a state championship.

It was a good day to be a Hoggard Viking.
