WECT GM, Karl Davis, dies at 59

WILMINGTON — We extend our condolences to our colleagues at WECT as they mourn the death of their General Manager Karl Davis.

Davis was vice president and general manager of WECT for a little more than three years and was the station’s general sales manager for five years before that.

During his tenure he was very active in the community, a member of the rotary club and working with groups including the Red Cross and Carolina Canines.

He also did a weekly commentary segment on WECT called “Consider This.”

Saturday Davis died when he apparently lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown from it while riding in Bladen County.

WWAY General Manager Andy Combs worked with Davis in the sales department at WSFX. He says Davis was instrumental in helping him get to know the Wilmington business community.

Davis was born and raised in Albany, New York. He worked in New York and California before coming to Wilmington.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen Baylies, two children and three grandchildren.

Karl Davis was 59 years old.
