McCrory enters governor’s race, pledges to solve road-building woes

JAMESTOWN, N.C. (AP) — Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory is running for governor.

The Republican made his announcement today on the steps of a Jamestown library that once housed his elementary school. About 200 people stood with him, holding signs with messages of support.

McCrory pledged to solve the state’s road-building problems and make state government more attentive to citizens’ needs. He also said he would work to keep career criminals in prison and rid the state’s jails of illegal immigrants who had committed crimes.

McCrory has less than four months to campaign before the May 6 primary. His four GOP opponents have been campaigning for several months.
