Officer shoots man at suspected gambling house
WILMINGTON — A man is in the hospital Friday morning after a Wilmington Police officer shot him while serving a search warrant on a suspected gambling house.
It happened at Two Trees Pools and Spas on South Kerr Avenue.
Detectives obtained a search warrant earlier this week based on information that an illegal gambling operation was being run in the building.
The special enforcement response team was asked to serve the warrant because investigators believed someone person inside the establishment was armed.
Police Chief Ralph Evangelous and District Attorney Ben David have asked the SBI investigate the shooting.
The victim is at New Hanover Regional hospital.
The names of the officer and victim are still being withheld this morning.
