Two GOP governor candidates release health care plans

RALEIGH (AP) — Two Republican candidates for governor released their health care platforms just hours before a scheduled television debate on the topic.

Salisbury attorney Bill Graham said at a news conference Thursday that his plan would focus on getting coverage to the 1.4 million uninsured people in North Carolina.

He proposed the creation of what he called “community risk pools” that would allow businesses, the self-employed and other individuals to buy and sell different types of health insurance policies.

Former Supreme Court Justice Bob Orr also released a plan Thursday that includes efforts to increase the number of doctors, nurses and medical professionals that are educated through the
University of North Carolina and community college systems.
