Update: 4-year-old drowns at White Lake

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A 4-year-old drowned this afternoon at White Lake, Bladen County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Larry Guyton confirms.

Bladen County Emergency Services Director Bradley Kinlaw says the child was pulled from White Lake near Camp Clearwater at about 12:30 p.m.

Kinlaw says a Good Samaritan performed CPR until emergency workers could get there and take the child to Bladen County Hospital.

Sgt. Mike Salmon says the child’s mother was there with five kids.  One was in charge of watching the 4-year-old, who was playing with his two older brothers.  Sgt. Salmon says from the time the mother last saw her son to the time he was pulled out of the water, it had been five minutes or less.

Salmon says while the investigation is ongoing, he doesn’t believe there will be charges filed.
