NC license bureaus halted by DMV computer problem

RALEIGH (AP) — North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles offices can’t issue licenses because a computer link that allows photo comparisons is down.

DMV spokeswoman Marge Howell says isn’t known when the problem will be fixed.

Howell said Tuesday the link with the photo server compares photos of drivers with previous pictures. She said customers should call a local office before going to get a license.

Last month, the DMV stopped issuing licenses and identification cards for part of a day when a national database used to verify information became overloaded.
