Grand jury declines to indict Lumberton city council member

LUMBERTON (AP) — A grand jury in Kentucky has declined to indict a Lumberton city council member who had been accused of raping an 18-year-old woman.

A Jefferson County grand jury declined Monday to indict John Cantey Jr. on a rape charge.

Cantey had been out on bond since Nov. 1, 2007, when he posted a $100,000 cash bond after spending 11 days in jail.

Cantey was arrested Oct. 20, 2007, in Louisville and charged with first-degree rape. The woman said she was raped at a hotel in Jeffersontown, Ky.

Cantey was traveling with the rap artist Juvenile, who had performed in Frankfort, Ky.
