Wrightsville Beach considering WAVE Transit, dangerous condition surfing ban
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH — Lots of people catch waves at Wrightsville beach, but what about to it?
The town is exploring the possibility of adding a WAVE Transit service from Wilmington to the beach.
Among the questions to be addressed: the number of stops and the cost.
The board of aldermen will likely hold a public hearing to get comments from residents before they vote on the idea.
Another issue the board is considering is restrictions on surfing at Wrightsville Beach during dangerous conditions.
The ban would include the areas near lifeguard stations during red flag conditions where waters are rough and have strong currents and surf.
The town’s current surfing zone ordinance restricts surfing in front of the lifeguard station during the summer season when guards are on duty.
The board has scheduled a public hearing in March to discuss the proposal.
