Wrightsville Beach planning public safety center

Wrightsville Beach is moving forward with its planned public safety center.

Monday night the Board of Aldermen voted four to one to proceed with plans for a center to house the police and fire departments.

The board will begin accepting bids. If any come within the $6.8 million budget the plans will then continue.

The board is looking for grants and donations to pay for the center, but if they have to, aldermen could raise taxes by 1.74 cents per $100 of value. That means the owner of a $1 million home would pay an extra $174 in taxes.
