Elementary students collect shoes for Nicaraguans
WILMINGTON — You’ve heard the expression, “Walk a mile in someone else’s shoes.” Well, soon some Nicaraguan children will be able to do just that.
This month students from Bradley Elementary School collected hundreds of used shoes to ship off to needy children in Nicaragua.
The shoe drive was part of the schools lesson on empathy, or “putting yourself in someone’s shoes.”
The prize for the class which collected the most shoes was a pizza party. That pizza proved to be a big motivator for some young ladies in the winning class.
One of the third-graders said, “We wanted the prize, we also wanted the kids to have shoes.”
All in all, the kids collected more than 700 shoes. The shoes will be shipped off the first week of March.
