Planned Hampstead housing development concerns residents

Yet another housing development is in the works for Hampstead. But it comes with some concerns.

St. George’s Reach is a residential and commercial project which will be built off country club road. The biggest worry for residents is the traffic it will bring.

More than 1,100 homes will be built on 400 acres, along with more than 200,000 square feet of commercial property.

To help alleviate a potential problem, Tuesday night, Pender County‘s planning board gave the OK for the development company to build a connector street for its project.

Actual construction for St. George’s Reach is not expected to begin for some time. The developer still has to get a number of permits.

Planning board members say it could be 2009 before ground is broken for the project.

Residents and board members have concerns other than the traffic.
