Funeral held for slain Wilmington man

WILMINGTON — Wednesday of last week marked the fourth murder of the year in our area, and police are still looking for answers. Out of the four murder cases three are still unsolved.

The funeral of the latest victim, 23-year-old Robert Lee Marshall was held Tuesday.
Family and friends filed into the new covenant holiness church on Dawson Street.

The 23-year-old Marshall was found lying on the road between 13th and Marstellar Streets. Police say he had been shot to death.

With little evidence from a crime scene, or information to go on, police are struggling to find answers.

Marshall’s family says he was a good guy who stayed out of trouble, and that he was looking forward to joining the air force.

Cousin Anthony Marshall said, “If anybody has seen anything, heard, know anything they need to report it to the police, it’s the same for any family, not just my cousin but anyone’s cousin, son, daughter or whatever.”

Marshall’s cousin said he doesn’t believe Robert Lee Marshall was involved in gang activity. Police say as more time goes by it gets more difficult to solve these types of crimes.

Police have followed a couple of leads since last week but they are still asking anyone with information to please come forward. Call the Wilmington Police at 910-343-3600.
