Science Contest at UNCW

Local middle and high school students competed in the North Carolina Science Olympiad at UNCW Saturday morning.

The contest is the largest science fair in eastern North Carolina. Students build their inventions and are judged based on their engineering and scientific analysis. More than 800 middle and high school students participated.

“It’s just to see how gravity works and how all of science just over the years has progressed and got more interesting,” said Shallotte Middle School student Collin Vanderborg. “It’s just very efficient in the way of our life.”

The top teams will move on to the state tournament at NC State University in three weeks.
