Ag-Mart Produce settles lawsuit over farmworkers’ deformed baby

MIAMI (AP) — Ag-Mart Produce has settled a lawsuit with a farmworker couple whose baby was born without limbs after the mother worked in the company’s tomato fields in North Carolina and Florida.

Ag-Mart representative Harry Costello says the company has not decided whether to talk about the confidential agreement. The couple’s lawyer announced the settlement yesterday.

The couple say they worked for the Ag-Mart before and during the woman’s pregnancy.

They and other workers testified the company sprayed pesticides while they were working in the fields. They also said managers did not wait long enough after spraying before sending workers back into the fields.
