UPDATE: Man arrested after wrong-way chase hospitalizes deputy
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A man is behind bars after leading deputies on a high-speed chase that sent a deputy to the hospital.
Darrell Levon Curry, from South Carolina, is in jail on several charges, including a felony for the chase, driving while impaired and a list of drug charges, including possession of crack cocaine.
According to a sheriff’s spokesperson, the chase that started at a checkpoint on Oxpen Road in Supply Wednesday night, sent one deputy, and Curry, to the hospital to be evaluated.
The chase started around 8:30 p.m.
Deputies say the car fled from officers, going the wrong way down Highway 17, hitting high speeds.
That’s when deputies used a pit maneuver to stop the car on Highway 17 at Cumbee Road.
Curry is now in the Brunswick County jail under a $30,500 secured bond.
