Wildfire keeps firefighters busy over weekend

A wildfire was still causing concern along the Pender-Sampson County line Sunday night.

Forestry officials estimate the fire has burned roughly 2,000 acres. It started near the Shiloh Community in Pender County around 4:00 o’clock Saturday afternoon.

Portions of Pender and Sampson County continued to smolder Sunday night. The rain early Sunday morning helped put out the blaze.

All firefighting efforts stopped around 8:00 o’clock Sunday night.

The forest service says it has all but one line covered.

When that short section is connected today the fire will be contained and under control.
