Local public servant dies

WILMINGTON — A man who spent many years serving the city of Wilmington has died.

Windell Daniels was involved in many community organizations over the years. Most recently he served as co-chair of the ten-year plan to end chronic homelessness.

He was also a UNCW trustee and executive director of the Wilmington Housing Authority.

Housing Authority Chairman Bo Dean said, “He gave of himself in ways that I don’t think we’ve ever had in the city of Wilmington, in the same capacity, for free. This is what this man did and his passion.”

Daniels was a trustee at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. He died last night of an apparent heart attack while dining with friends.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
