NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A man and woman suspected in the deaths of two people in Winston-Salem (North Carolina) surrendered this morning after a five-hour stand-off with state police in front of a Norfolk, Virginia, mall.
A Meals on Wheels volunteer and a man she was delivering lunch to yesterday were killed in Winston-Salem. The Winston-Salem Journal says the victims were 77-year-old volunteer Anne Magness and 64-year-old Bob Denning. Mangness’ husband, 78-year-old Bill Magness, was wounded and is in good condition at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Twenty-six-year-old Ashley Smith and 38-year-old Timothy Hartford Junior were taken into custody this morning in Norfolk. The couple and a six-month old baby had stopped in the mall after police used road spikes to shred their tires.
