Wright’s replacement wins 18th District nomination
WILMINGTON — Thomas Wright may be in prison, but he still grabbed nearly 10 percent of the vote for his old seat in the House of Representatives. His replacement, though, won the Democratic nomination for the office going away.
Sandra Spaulding Hughes, the former Wilmington City Council member appointed to replace Wright earlier this year after he was convicted on several felony charges, grabbed about 75 percent. Community activist Hollis Briggs, Jr., was second with 15 percent.
Hughes will face Republican Thom Goolsby, a Wilmington attorney, in the general election in November.
