Cost of summer RVing
RVing is a great way to see the country, but soaring fuel prices may put the brakes on one of the summer’s popular vacation activities.
Some motor homes have a 55 gallon fuel tank and it costs around $200 to fill. That’s up almost $50 from last year.
Travis Creech, the owner of Rex and Sons RV Store in Wilmington, says that sales are down this year due to the economy, but those who love to take their RV and camp will still go, although they may not travel as far.
Creech says even with the increase in the price of fuel, the cost of camping and RVing can still be cheaper than other vacations.
Jackie Fulbright, who lives in an RV said, “It’s a trade off. Since you don’t have the other expenses, you just pull up, fill up and it’s just our choice.”
“People without the money aren’t going to do this. People with the money are going to do this no matter what it costs,” said Fulbright.
Creech says that even though RV sales have been down, the business has had an increase in service work.
