Wake Forest to drop requirement for SAT or ACT
RALEIGH — Wake Forest University is dropping its requirement that students submit SAT or ACT test scores to be admitted to the school.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported the school will announce Tuesday that the test will be optional for the freshman class starting in 2009.
The newspaper reported that university officials decided to make the tests optional after reviewing research that shows the tests favor wealthier students.
Admissions director Martha Allman says it’s the right and fair thing to do. Allman says she expects many students will continue to submit their scores.
School officials say they will make admissions decisions based on high school curriculum and grades, combined with written essays, extracurricular activities and evidence of character and talent.
