SC-based military contractor plans to shift work to NC plant

ROXBORO, N.C. — A South Carolina-based firm that makes armored vehicles for the Marine Corps says an overhaul of its operations will shift some work to a plant in North Carolina.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Wednesday that Force Protection of Ladson, S.C., intends to move the work to Roxboro from a plant in Summerville, S.C.

Force Protection said last year it would spend $31 million to convert the empty Roxboro plant and create 270 jobs over three years. The company said accounting problems, shareholder lawsuits and a loss of market share contributed to the delay of plans to move the work to Roxboro.
