Local retailers say some tomatoes are still safe

Local retailers want you to know that even with the recall of raw tomatoes, you can still find some safe tomatoes in stores and local produce markets.

Country Fresh Produce store manager Dennis Grants said he hand picks his tomatoes at the Farmers Market in Columbia, South Carolina.

He said the tomatoes are from farms in South Carolina and Georgia which are not under the recall.

North Carolina grown tomatoes will be available in about a month.

Grants said buying from local farmers and produce markets should help ease the minds of people concerned about the recent salmonella outbreaks.

He also said to avoid any kind of contamination, make sure to wash your fruit and vegetables with cold water.
