Organization helping children with fathers overseas celebrate Father’s Day

A local organization wants to make sure the children of our troops serving overseas are not forgotten this father’s day.

For the third year in a row, the military support group Step up for Soldiers is taking children of our local military on a fishing trip.

Hundreds of children are expected to meet Saturday at the Kure Beach Fishing Pier to try and catch a big one.

The organizers of the event say helping the families of our troops simply makes them feel good.

Step up for Soldiers is providing all the gear. Children just need to show up ready to fish.

The group is also planning a fallen soldiers memorial dedication next week to remember four National Guard members who were killed during the war.
