Former NC county sheriff sentenced to 6 years for lying

RALEIGH — The former sheriff of Robeson County will spend six years in prison for lying to a federal grand jury that was investigating corruption.

The Robesonian of Lumberton reports that U.S. District Court Judge Terrence Boyle sentenced Glenn Maynor on Thursday.

The former lawman pleaded guilty in September to one count of perjury and one count conspiracy. Prosecutors said in addition to lying to the grand jury, Maynor allowed deputies to be paid for
working at his home and at an election campaign golf tournament.

Maynor faced up to 10 years in prison. He will report to start his term behind bars on Aug. 1.

The charges against Maynor stemmed from a six-year investigation that has led to guilty pleas from 22 former Robeson County lawmen.
