WILMINGTON–There were lots of hugs and kisses to go around as officers aboard the US Coast Guard cutter “Diligence” made a safe return back to the Port City.
Diligence sailed in Saturday afternoon as family and friends looked on. Coast guard members spent 49 days on patrol in Miami.
They arrested nearly 100 cuban migrants who attempted to enter the United States.
The group also tracked down a stolen boat and arrested the two people involved.
after a long trip, the officers were glad to finally be back with their families.
Next Saturday, several coast guard members will take off their uniforms and put on their running shoes for the 15th annual Diligence Dash 5K run.
All proceeds will go to Habitat for Humanity and the Domestic Violence Shelter and Services Inc.
